Ianto Powell Osteopath and Acupuncturist B.Sc. (hons), D.O., Lic, Acu., M.B.Ac.C
Ianto Powell grew up in North Wales, youngest of 4 sons of world renowned ceramic artists Jean and Rhys Powell (www.craigbragdydesign.co.uk).
Ianto studied biology/physiology/anatomy for 10 years before working as an osteopath/acupuncturist for the last 20 years.
An early interest in biology led to taking a degree in Physiology at Bristol University where he subsequentlygraduated from with an upper second class degree with honours in 1985.
Ianto then studied osteopathy at the European School of Osteopathy in Kent for 4 years graduating in 1989.
After this he worked in the Norfolk Clinic for 3 years during which time he studied at the British school of Acupuncture in London gaining my Licentiate in Acupuncture and gaining membership to the British Acupuncture Council in 1992.
Ianto is also registered with the General Osteopathic Council and a member of the British Osteopathic Association.
Ianto opened the Park Clinic Denbigh in 1989. Since then Clinics have opened in Mold in 1993 and more recently Rhyl which is now part of the Clarence Medical Centre.
Through 21 years of treating people (Ianto has given approximately 55,000 treatments to date) Ianto has developed a deep understanding of how it is possible to improve the function of the body by working with the structure.
Basically Osteopathy and Acupuncture uses physical stimulii (traction, joint articulation, manipulation, deep tissue massage techniques, triggerpoint stimulation either by pressure or the use of needles) to guide, direct, stimulate the body back to full health. Ianto is now an expert at these types of treatments. Not only does he know what conditions are suitable for treatment but also the limitations of the therapies and when referal to other medical practioners is neccessary.
The knowledge and experience gained has given Ianto the expertise to diagnose, treat and communicate with people at a very high level. Patients need to clearly understand problems, be given clear instructions on how to help themselves and hence take some responsibility, this combined with specific hands on treatment to restore normal function offers a powerful combination to help people back to fitness and out of pain.
Ianto is a keen sportsman, tennis (treasurer of Denbigh Tennis Club), skiing, hill walking and cycling being his main pursuits now.
In 2007 he completed the 250 mile Lon Las Cymru cycle route (www.sustrans.org.uk) with 2 friends Gareth Jones and Andrew O’Toole raising £2600 for Hope House Children’s hospice. He regularly commutes between the clinics on his bike.
Ianto has 2 children Megan and Joseff and live in Denbigh with wife Artist Sarah Powell.(Sarah Carvell)
